Chollas Creek Restoration

2021 OH! San Diego Chollas Creek Restoration

On Sunday May 7th I drove around San Diego and visited a few of the sites listed on the OH! San Diego Website, including the Chollas Creekside Park at 602 Euclid Ave. in Southeastern San Diego.

The park is adjacent to a Walgreens store and parking lot on the East, and an Elementary school to the North, just past the lookout point pictured in two of the photos to the right.

This creek restoration project utilized native plant species, and created a naturalized channel, that still contained its concrete retaining walls, in case of extreme weather conditions, to prevent flooding of surrounding areas.

The majority of Chollas creek is either concrete channel; or neglected trash filled natural channels.

The images to the left demonstrate the typical conditions for other sections of the creek. These were taken in Barrio Logan, near the end of the creek, where it meets the San Diego bay.
